About The Book Garden

The Book Garden is a community-driven bookstore in the heart of Koukaki. Founded in early 2020 the shop was born from a desire to combine a love for literature with a deep commitment to social justice. Originally created to be a sanctuary that supports survivors of abuse and exploitation, we operate with a clear philanthropic heart: all proceeds from our shelves are dedicated to this vital mission.

A Neighborhood Heart

We are proudly a local Koukaki business. Whether you are looking for a new read in your native Greek or exploring our extensive collections in English, French, or German, we invite you to support a shop that gives back to the city we call home. Every book bought here helps us continue our work in supporting and empowering women survivors.

Inside the Garden

The shop is intentionally full—overflowing with stories and life. While our shelves are the main attraction, we’ve created a space that mirrors the rhythm of Athens itself. Sometimes it is buzzing with the energy of the city, and at other times, it is a silent retreat.

Explore our corners:

  • The Children’s Area: A dedicated spot for our youngest readers to discover their first stories.

  • The Study Loft: Head upstairs to find our large communal table—a quiet haven designed for students, writers, and those who need a focused place to work.

  • The Kettle is On: We believe in the old-school art of hospitality. If you stay with us long enough, you’ll hear the kettle whistle; a cup of tea is our way of saying you’re welcome to stay as long as you like.

Whether the shop is lively with conversation or wrapped in a quiet afternoon hush, it is always a place of warmth and community.

Come browse, stay awhile.

"By choosing pre-loved books, you’re helping us keep stories in circulation and reducing our environmental footprint—one page at a time."

The Traveling Book

While we are rooted in the neighborhood, our books travel the world. We believe a great story is the ultimate companion—the perfect beach read for the islands, a sprawling epic for a long ferry ride, or a lightweight paperback for your flight home.
